Ford Cars (1949–1954) Engines by Year

The 1949 'shoebox' Ford was the company's first all-new postwar car. It carried the flathead six and V8 until the overhead-valve six arrived for 1952 and the Y-block V8 replaced the flathead for 1954. The 1935–1948 cars have their own page. Ratings are gross through 1971 and SAE net from 1972.
