Ford introduced the F-150 for 1975 as a heavier-rated half-ton alongside the F-100, which it replaced after 1983. It has been America's best-selling pickup for most of the time since. This page covers the F-150 itself; the F-100 has its own page.

1997–2003

The rounded 1997 F-150 brought the 4.2 V6 and the overhead-cam 4.6 and 5.4 V8s. The 1999–2004 SVT Lightning used a supercharged 5.4, and the 2002–2003 Harley-Davidson edition a 340 hp version.

The 2009 F-150 used 4.6 and 5.4 V8s. The 2010 SVT Raptor added a 6.2 V8, and the 2011 lineup brought the 3.7 V6, the 5.0 Coyote V8 and the 3.5 EcoBoost twin-turbo V6.

The aluminum-body F-150 added the 2.7 EcoBoost, a 3.3 V6 from 2018 and a 3.0 Power Stroke diesel from 2018 to 2021. The 2017 Raptor used a high-output 3.5 EcoBoost.
