The Road Runner began in 1968 as a low-priced B-body muscle car and ended in 1980 as an appearance and performance package on the compact Volaré.
Pick a year to see every engine offered that model year, with its code, rated horsepower and the trims it came in. Each engine links to its full specs.
The first Road Runner was built to a price, so its engine list was short: a 383 rated at 335 hp as standard and the 426 Hemi as the option. The 440 with three two-barrels (the A12 package) arrived partway through 1969, and the 1970 Superbird was the only Road Runner offered with the four-barrel 440.
The 1971 redesign kept the Hemi and the 440 Six Barrel for one year. The standard engine was a 400 in 1972 and a 318 in 1973 and 1974, with 340, 360, 400 and 440 options. Ratings are SAE net from 1972.
