The Valiant was Plymouth's compact from 1960 to 1976 and the car that introduced Chrysler's slant six. It was sold as a separate Valiant brand in 1960 and as a Plymouth from 1961; the Duster, its coupe version, has its own page.

The first Valiants used the 170 and, from 1961, the 225 slant six. The 273, Chrysler's first small-block V8, arrived in 1964, with a four-barrel Commando version from 1965.
The 1967 redesign kept the slant sixes and small blocks; the 318 joined in 1968 and the 198 six replaced the 170 in 1970. Ratings are SAE net from 1972.
