Second generation (1968–1972)

The second-generation Chevelle went from a 140 hp six to the 450 hp LS6 454 in three years. The big blocks were tied to the SS: a separate SS 396 series in 1968, then an SS option package on the Malibu, 300 Deluxe coupe and El Camino from 1969.

Horsepower is advertised gross through 1971 and SAE net for 1972, which is why the 1972 numbers look so much lower.
