Pontiac LeMans Engines by Year

The Tempest and LeMans were Pontiac's compact and then mid-size cars from 1961 to 1981. The LeMans name returned for 1988–1993 on a small car built by Daewoo in Korea. The GTO began as a LeMans option and has its own page.

1961–1963

The first Tempest used a 195 cubic-inch four made from half of Pontiac's 389 V8, and offered Buick's aluminum 215 V8 and, for 1963, the 326.

1964–1972

The mid-size Tempest and LeMans used a Chevrolet-built six in 1964–1965, Pontiac's overhead-cam six from 1966 to 1969, and Pontiac V8s from the 326 to the 455. Ratings are gross through 1971 and SAE net from 1972.

1973–1981

The Colonnade and later LeMans used Pontiac V8s and, from 1977, engines from Buick, Chevrolet and Oldsmobile; the notes say which division built each one.
